Finger independence exercises
A collection of short piano exercises for increasing independence between fingers
This is a collection of piano exercises that I'm pretty sure are stolen. They are designed to increase finger independence. Do an exercise in each hand on any 5 note cluster on the piano. Pick one that sounds nice and feels comfy. Mix it up per exercise, maybe try all the black notes, chromatic cluster etc.
As you can see from the videos...I'm still mastering it. There's a few mistakes. You'll get the idea though ;-)
If it's a real struggle, then the advice is the usual: go slow, super slow. If you've not done this sort of thing before it can feel as though your brain is rewiring itself...that's because it is. If that's still a problem, try the exercise using your other hand to gently hold down the fingers that should not move, like stabalisers. When that starts to feel comfortable take the other hand away.
1. Staccato run
Nice and simple beginning. Just play each finger at a time with a bouncy staccato.
